Christie’s just sold this photo at auction for a record setting $4.3 million. No, really. They did. No offense to Mr. Gursky (the “artist”), who no doubt worked long and hard to surgically remove any element of even passing interest from the picture, but WTF? Look, I’m all for “different” approaches to landscape photography and I like interesting geometrical juxtapositions and interplays between shades of gray and whatnot as much as the next man, but come the fuck on — this looks like a badly executed but brutally honest ad for visiting Belgium in early November. Where, oh, where is the multi-million dollar appeal?
