Too Fair and Balanced

image004wallYou gotta love this. Abe Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League (aka the “if you say anything critical of Israel you’re a vicious anti-semite to be disregarded forever” mafia) is concerned about Obama’s possible choice of former Senator Mitchell as Mid-East peace envoy. His gripe? Senator Mitchell may be too fair and balanced. No, really, he actually said this (h/t thinkprogress):

“Sen. Mitchell is fair. He’s been meticulously even-handed,” said Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League. “But the fact is, American policy in the Middle East hasn’t been ‘even handed’ — it has been supportive of Israel when it felt Israel needed critical U.S. support.”

“So I’m concerned,” Foxman continued. “I’m not sure the situation requires that kind of approach in the Middle East.”

That’s just incredible. They’re not even pretending to want a real solution — the Israel lobby simply continues to want to have their cake and eat it, too, regardless of the cost in human lives and suffering. You’d think the keepers of the legacy of the Holocaust would be above that sort of shit. But, no, they seem to cherish the opportunity to inflict pain and hardship on others, and they’re arrogant enough and have been appeased for so long they’ve long since dismissed the possibility of any kind of hubristic consequences for their atttitude.
